Results of the PetroCup World Student Olympics 2025

The Final of the PetroCup World Student Olympics 2025, organized by Nafta College, has recently concluded. It is time to summarize the results of this truly large-scale event in oil & gas education and the industry as a whole.

PWSO is more than just an Olympics. It is a new direction in oil & gas education and a unique analytical, technology-driven simulation game that allows participants to design and manage the development of oil and gas fields in a virtual environment.

For students, participating in PWSO is an opportunity to test their knowledge in practice, make real engineering decisions, and respond to the most relevant technological challenges of the industry.

This year marked the 8th PetroCup World Student Olympics, which brought together:

  • 50 teamsmore than
  • 380 students
  • 15 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Oman, Iran, the UAE, Pakistan, Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, and Malaysia.

This season, the Olympics were held in the format of four Leagues: the North Eurasia League, the Middle East Gulf League, the Africa League, and the South Asia League.

The North Eurasia League was traditionally held in an on-site format. This year, Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University served as both the host venue and co-organizer.

Following the League stages, the top 16 teams advanced to the Final, which took place from December 2 to 4. The Final tournament was held online, bringing together young professionals from around the world in a unified virtual space to showcase their professional skills in oil and gas field development management.

The winner of the Olympics and the holder of the N. N. Neprimerov Cup was the team from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (Russia). Second place was taken by the team from St. Petersburg State University (Russia), while third place went to the team from Almetyevsk state technological university «Petroleum high school» (Russia).

PWSO 2025 once again confirmed the high level of training of oil and gas students, their engagement, ambition, and commitment to professional growth. All participants demonstrated a strong level of activity and knowledge.
