Results North Eurasia League | PWSO 2023
A total of 24 petroleum engineering student teams recently competed in the PetroCup World Student Olympics - North Eurasia League comprising participants from Russian and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) universities, for a chance to qualify for the Finals
On April 26-27, 2023 RUDN University played host to the PWSO 2023 | North Eurasia League PWSO is a highly anticipated annual event that features a series of field development tournaments where each team represents their league using PetroCup simulator.
The PWSO was organized by Nafta College in collaboration with co-organizer – RUDN University.
The event saw the participation of 24 student teams from 16 cities in the Russian Federation, from leading petroleum universities located in Republic of Belarus, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. RUDN University hosted a total of 24 student teams, with 12 teams competing in-person and the other 12 teams participated online. The North Eurasia League saw an impressive turnout, with over 250 participating students.
The PWSO Opening Ceremony was held on April 26, 2023. Representatives of leading Russian oil and gas companies, as well as university officials gave opening remarks at the start of the event. All speakers emphasized the significance and remarkable value of the PWSO as a tool for promoting petroleum higher education, enhancing the educational system's ability to train highly skilled professionals for the oil and gas industries, fostering the growth of youth programs, and strengthening both the national and international petroleum student community.
After two days of intense competition and a battle of skills:
- 1 Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University (Russia) secured the first place
- 2 The team from Samara State Technical University (Russia) came second
- 3 while the third spot went to students from Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting (Russia)
The PWSO provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their theoretical knowledge, while industry organizations had the chance to meet and recruit young professionals in their organizations.
The three victorious student teams from the PWSO 2023 | North Eurasia League will now advance to the Finals, where they will compete against the winners of other leagues from the Middle East, South Asia, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.
The Organizing Committee of PWSO 2023 would like to extend their warmest congratulations to all the winners for their outstanding performance. They would also like to express their gratitude to all the participants and guests of the PWSO for their enthusiastic participation and support. The committee is eagerly looking forward to seeing the winners at the finals and encourages those who did not make it to the final to participate in the event next year.
