PetroCup World Student Olympics 2023 | Finals
The PetroCup World Student Olympics (PWSO) Finals took place from January 29-31, where students were challenged to develop digital oilfield over the course of three days.
This year's tournament saw students across five oil and gas universities from Russia, Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
The final tournament was also held online, providing a platform for students worldwide to join and demonstrate their skills and knowledge in field development.
Each team used PetroCup simulator, to simulate a wide array of oilfield activities.
Students were faced with a wide spectrum of challenges, which included addressing sophisticated engineering and geological complications, performing data analysis, and making key strategic decisions to promote field development even further.
The PWSO Finalist team displayed exceptional performance this year. Below are the results:
- 1The team from Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University in Russia emerged victorious, securing the N.N.N Cup this year
- 2The Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting claimed the second place
- 3Samara State Technical University (Russia) rounded out the top three
Throughout the year, students from petroleum universities worldwide participated in PWSO tournaments, representing their respective leagues.
In total, 50 teams participated across 4 Leagues.
The PWSO organising committee wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their dedication and for professional skills they have demonstrated.
Our representatives have announced plans to broaden the event's reach next year by inviting students from other countries and universities, so next year the event will be even more diverse.
This year's tournament brought to light the outstanding achievements of the students, signifying their ability to address complex real life challenges.

A professor at Kazan State University and a Doctor of Technical Sciences, he has a long history of publishing his research in the university's newspapers and periodicals. In addition to his academic pursuits, he wrote a novel that delves into the daily military life of a front-line soldier.
